Personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces have been cautioned against engaging in unauthorized police duties, land guard activities and other unauthorized assignments that tend to tarnish the image of the military.Director General in Charge of Planning and Development, Brigadier General John Forkuo stated this when he reviewed a passing out parade for 103 navy recruits at the Eastern Naval Command Basic and Leadership Training School at Tema.Addressing the recruits, Brigadier General Forkuo said that their training should serve as a foundation for their future career stating that they must continue to upgrade their knowledge to enable them to be abreast of new trends in their profession.He said their loyalty, integrity discipline and commitment to the protection of the nation must nor be in doubt, stressing that after 50 years of nation hood, the military personnel’s pride lies in safe guarding the constitution and developing the democracy which has made the nation an icon in the West African sub-region in particular and Africa at large.The recruits, the 70th batch undergo training, passed out after 27 weeks f intensive Standard Military and Basic Naval Training. They were taken through weapon handling and telecommunication skills and academic work. They will under take a further three month practical training on board a ship to mould them into full fledge sailors.The best all round recruit award went to Abankwa Yeboah, the best female recruit was Dorcas Ofori, Kofi Emmanuel Nti was adjudged the best in weapon handling, Anokye Forson won the award for academics and Miah Kweku Barnie received the best in drill.Source: The Ghanaian Times
