A quarrel over house keeping 'chop' money has resulted in the death of a man who was allegedly hit on the head with a stick by his wife.
Twenty-nine-year-old Emelia Antwi now finds herself in court for the murder of her husband Kwaku Adenu 32.
She has been remanded in custody while the Attorney General Department studies the case docket.
The quarrel, according to the police started at the New Weija home of the couple in Accra when Adenu arrived from work drunk.
He reportedly asked Emelia to take off his shirt, but apparently annoyed with Adenu for not giving her ‘chop money’ before leaving for work, Emelia told her husband that she was hungry and for that reply Adenu allegedly started raining insults on her, leading to a fight between the two.
Emelia was said to have fled the room to an adjoining porch but Adenu pursued her.
Emelia allegedly grabbed a stick lying on the ground and hit Adenu’s head rendering him unconscious.
He died on being conveyed to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital.
The couple’s landlord accompanied Emelia to report the case to the Weija District police.
When contacted, DSP John Animpong, of the district police confirmed the story.
