The National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Yabaga/Kubori, Ibrahim Abdul-Rauf Tanko, handed a two-week suspension by his party for slapping a colleague in parliament, says he has learnt his lessons.
He told Joy News that even though Parliament is on recess, a situation that should have afforded him ample opportunity to visit and interact with his constituency executives and party foot soldiers, he has not been able to do so as a result of the suspension.
MP Ibrahim Tanko said the ban imposed on him ruled him out of any party activity and it was a difficult period that he hoped, served a good purpose.
Functional Executive Committee of the NDC was meeting on Tuesday to lift the suspension imposed on the MP for Yabaga/Kubori.
Ibrahim Abdul-Rauf Tanko earned himself the suspension after slapping his colleague from Juabeso, Sampson Ahi, in what he later described as an unfortunate incident.
NDC Deputy General Secretary, Baba Jamal told JOY NEWS party officials were to assess the conduct of the MP since the ban was imposed and review it.
Ibrahim Tanko told Joy News’ Elvis Kwashie that he had had to restrict himself to visiting his friends and receiving visitors, and did not believe that the suspension would have much effect on the fortunes of his party in the constituency since the people really did not identify him with violence.
