DStv Mobile has launched the Walka, a DVB-H handheld TV device which will enable DStv subscribers to watch television on the go.
The launch of the Walka follows a long line of technology innovations associated with the DStv brand - including the Drifta, DStv Mobile, High Definition PVR decoders and integrated customer service tools.
Country Manager of DStv Mobile Limited, Edward Kwame Owusu explains that with the new Walka device, subscribers within DStv Mobile network coverage areas in Accra, Tema and their environs will now have access to the channels on the DStv Mobile DVB-H network.
“With the launch of the Walka device, we are yet again breaking new ground in the pay TV industry. A new technology such as the Walka requires significant amounts of investment, however, it is an investment that we are committed to make to ensure that Ghanaians and DStv subscribers have access to the latest media and technology available in the market.”
General Manager of MultiChoice Ghana, Cecil Sunkwa-Mills said that technology continues to transform the way Ghanaian consumers access news, information and entertainment, hence, MultiChoice has ensured that Ghanaians have access to all the latest breaking television news and entertainment in real time for the last 15 years.
“MultiChoice is continuously demonstrating its leadership capabilities through product innovation and technology. The development and introduction of new technology such as the Walka is key to ensuring that DStv subscribers get more enjoyment and control of their television viewing – this always remains at the core of the company’s mission and vision,” added Mr. Sunkwa-Mills.
The Walka device is portable, slim, light-weight and has an in-built signal receiver that allows subscribers to receive the DVB-H signal and content in areas where there is DVB-H coverage. The device does not require Wi-Fi, 3G or PC connectivity.
