The Ghana Revenue Authority, GRA grossed nearly 9 billion Ghana cedis to the state in 2011. The 8.7 billion figure is 15 percent more than its target of 7 .5 billion cedis. Domestic taxes, both direct and indirect accounted, for about 5 billion cedis, whilst Customs including Petroleum contributed 3.6 billion cedis.
Commissioner General of the Authority, George Blankson disclosed this to newsmen at a news conference in Accra. He later outlined to Joy Business some of the measures put in place to meet the 2012 target of 11.5 billion cedis.
“The performance in 2011 is demonstrative of the benefits that come with the integration and modernization of the tax regime. We hope to intensify audits of especially the Large Tax Payers in 2012. We’ll also undertake quick examination of tax returns submitted and in terms of recovery of tax arrears, the enforcement and debt management unit is to be empowered with more resources for higher efficiency in their role” he concluded.
