Mr Anthony Marshal Arpoh 31, a legal practitioner has been unanimously elected as the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for Bia constituency for the 2008 general elections. He polled 142 out of 143 votes cast by delegates at the constituency congress. Nana Yiadom Boakye, Bia Constituency Chairman of NPP addressing the delegates, said the Party needed peace and unity to win the elections. "Divisions, power struggle and petty squabbles will ruin the Party's chances in the elections,” he added. Nana Boakye advised activities and sympathisers of the NPP to solve their differences through dialogue adding, "we must not allow our differences to override the supreme interest of the Party". He urged them to maintain a disciplined and united front, respect structures within the party and keep decisions of the Party within themselves. Mr Benjamin Armah, Bia District Chief Executive advised members of the Party to work hard, organise appropriately and win the elections. He said the elections would be competitive therefore; members must devote their time, resources and skills towards the good of the party. Mr Kobina K. Sam, Western Regional Secretary of the Party said though differences existed among them, such acts should not affect its focus and vision. He said 2008 elections required new strategies that could convince floating voters to join the Party and appealed to activists to support the candidate during the campaign. Mr Arpoh said unity of the Party was paramount and teamwork should be the focus of all activists. At Sefwi Wiawso, Dr Kwaku Afriyie, former Minister of Health was elected unopposed as NPP Parliamentary candidate for Wiawso Constituency. He pledged to work closely with members and expressed appreciation to the delegates for endorsing his candidature. Dr Afriyie said his defeat in 2004 had taught him several lessons in life and would use some of these lessons to improve on the fortunes of the Party. He pointed out that politics was not evil as being portrayed but an avenue “for service to mankind and was ready to offer that service." Source: GNA
