Former President J.A. Kufuor has descended heavily on detractors who always criticize attempts by ruling governments to undertake developmental projects, describing them as nation wreckers.
According to Mr. Kufuor, such people in the society are nothing but traitors whose actions and utterances invariably lead to the underdevelopment of the country and turn around to accuse governments for not doing anything to develop the nation.
Former President Kufuor said this in reference to some individuals who criticized the commencement of work on the state-of-the-art Tetteh Quarshie- Apenkwa- Mallam road which was initiated by the erstwhile NPP administration and funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation of the United States during the George Bush administration.
In 2005, the Corporation, using the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) gave Ghana US$547 million for developmental projects, including the Tetteh Quarshie Apenkwa- Mallam, Achimota Ofankor and Tetteh Quarshie- Madina- Pantang roads, but some individuals including the Managing Editor for the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr criticized the projects and alleged that America is giving money to Ghana to undertake such projects in order to base the proposed African Command (Africom) of the United States Army here.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Thursday, former President Kufuor said such individuals are nation wreckers and should not be taken seriously, adding these are the same people who will benefit immensely from the project.
He said Ghana benefited from the MCA funds as a result of opting for the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative.
When the ruling NDC assumed office in 2009 the project was continued and was subsequently commissioned by President Mills last Wednesday in Accra.
Ex-President Kuffuor expressed his excitement over the project, saying at long last his dream for Ghana to have a first class road has been materialized.
Mr. Kufuor advised the current leadership of government to eschew corrupt practice, since the MCA has assured Ghana that if proper management is put in place another trench of money will be given to the state for other developmental projects.
On political opponents castigating the NPP’s Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo- Addo, as a womanizer, former President Kufuor condemned such allegations and said it will lead the country nowhere.
He said Nana Akufo-Addo is not a mean person, but a leader of the NPP who has the capabilities to transform the nation if given the mandate.
On his appointment as the Ambassador for the school feeding program, ex-President Kuffuor said he is ever ready to serve the world and impact positively on the lives of others.
