Transport Minister Alhaji Collins Dauda has said the National Health Insurance Scheme has been improved under the NDC regime contrary to speculations that the scheme is on the verge of collapse. Alhaji Dauda said previously, children under 18 were registered as dependants; which means that such a child can only access the NHIS if his parents or one of tehm subscribes to the scheme. He was emphatic that, now there is nothing like dependants because persons under 18 are taken care of free of charge without any recourse to guardians. “This is the change that has affected NHIS and it’s a good change, ‘wompe wei na wope den’? to wit “if you don’t want this, what else do you want?” Speaking on Adom Dawso Nsem hosted by Adakabre Frimpong Manso ALhaji Collins Dauda revealed that, unlike the NPP regime where subscribers were made to wait for a certain period of time after paying their health insurance premium, these days one can access healthcare a day after paying the premium. He added that overnment, as part of the Better Ghana Agenda, has installed two Magnetic Resonance Imager (MRI) at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Tamale Teaching Hospital respectively to serve the northern and the middle belts in addition to existing ones at the 37 Military and Korle-bu Teaching Hospitals. The Asutifi North MP said he had every cause to believe that Ghanaians are better off under the NDC compared to NPP. According to him, producer price of cocoa for example, has been increased from GHC120 per bag (in 2008) to a whopping GHC250 within the last three years. He said, “if the NPP and its followers are crying wolf, (then) maybe it is because their sources of income which may not be decent, have seized under NDC”. He said at the time the NPP were leaving power in 2008, cocoa price had only been increased to GHC120 per bag. The Minister added that, now under the Mills administration, a bag of cocoa sells at GHC250 which can buy one-and-a-half packets of roofing sheets. Based on these and other strides made so far by the NDC, Alhaji Dauda expressed the hope that the good people of Ghana will retain the NDC administration. He also responded to a statement made by his colleague MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyepong at the NPP’s “gargantuan rally” at the weekend that anybody who stole ballot box during the December elections should be lynched. According to him, it is about time politicians focused on issues-based campaign so that voters will also get their message and accordingly vote for them.
