A Deputy Communication Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover says the Woyomegate scandal could have been avoided if President John Mills was in charge of the affairs of the country.
He said President Mills is a ceremonial leader who lacks the ability to take bold and decisive decisions on important issues in his administration.
Titus Glover’s assertion follows similar claims by the flag-bearer of the NPP; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who says the President is at sea when it comes to the state of affairs in the country.
The NPP flag-bearer at a "gargantuan rally" of the party to climax his nationwide listening tour in Accra Saturday, accused President Mills of retarding Ghana’s development and called on Ghanaians to vote the ruling government out in December.
Nana Akufo-Addo had said the NPP was the only alternative to salvage the country from the many sufferings the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had inflicted on Ghanaians.
And speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Titus-Glover said President Mills was in captivity in his own administration hence very willing to do the bidding of his superiors to the presidency.
Falling short of mentioning the names of the so-called superiors, Titus-Glover noted that President Mills was as well a stooge at the presidency.
To buttress his point, he cited the decision of the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor to pay businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome the controversial GH¢51 million judgement debt despite a directive by President Mills to withhold the payment as a clear example of his (Mills) inability to control his subordinates in government.
Titus-Glover accused President Mills of shielding his ministers who have been implicated in the Woyomegate scandal- a President he teased claimed to be against corruption.
The NPP communications team member indicated that he did not trust President Mills, who according to him pretends to be a God-fearing and innocent but is the direct opposite.
Titus Glover noted that Ghanaians are wide awake and will not succumb to any lies and deceit by the NDC, adding that Nana Addo is the best candidate for the presidency of Ghana.
In a quick response however, the Managing Editor of the Al Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature also a panelist on the programme said President Mills is very much abreast with the state of affairs in his government.
He added that the President's action on the Woyome issue has proven to Ghanaians that he does not aid and abate crime but would deal with you irrespective of party affiliation.
Alhaji Bature claimed that the exceptional leadership of President Mills has been appreciated by former President Kufuor who he said is “becoming the chief campaign manager for Mills.”
