Zoil Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Zoomlion, a leading waste management company, has given 60 live jackets to its live guards in the Kpandai District to reduce disasters on the water bodies, which claim lives. The guards have also been refreshed with operational strategies to respond positively to evacuation missions. Mr Jaspa Jatoh, District Chief Executive, commended what he described as the “phenomenal interventions” Zoomlion and its subsidiaries were pursuing across the country which had resulted in employment of the youth and clean environment. These came to light when a team of officials from Zoomlion Northern Regional Office paid a visit to the area to strengthen the company’s relationship with the people. The DCE said the presence of the live guards in the area was welcoming news since they have been helping people in some of the fishing communities to cross water bodies with ease and preventing illegal fishing activities. Mr Jatoh advised residents particularly those living close to water bodies to avoid overloading boats and stop illegal fishing activities along the Oti River, which tends to pollute the water making it dangerous to be used for domestic purposes. Mr Philip Ofori, Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of Zoomlion, who led the delegation to the area, urged the live guards to be dedicated to duty. Mr Joseph Ayuboya, Zoil Coordinator assured the people that the Zoil brigade would respond positively to safe lives when the need arise and encouraged the guards to collaborate with boat owners and fishermen to facilitate their work. He refuted media allegations that the live guards are using fire arms in the District and preventing people from engaging in their bread winning jobs. When the team paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Blajai, Nana Akiamu II, he praised Zoomlion but appealed to the company to provide the community with a boat to respond quickly to accident victims in the water bodies.
