Bright Adjei, a businessman based in Hohoe in the Volta Region has been sentenced by a Circuit Court to a fine of GH¢500 (five million cedis) for issuing a dud cheque with the intention to defraud one Mr Godfred Tettey-Zevor, a Tema-based dealer in building materials.
Mr Samuel Sarpong-Appiah, the presiding Judge of the Hohoe Court, convicted Adjei on his own plea of issuing a dud cheque with a face value of GH¢575.
Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Samuel Gbedemah told the Court that Adjei bought some building materials from the complainant totaling GH¢575 on credit and promised to repay within a short time in May 2005.
He said Adjei dishonoured his promise compelling the complainant to trace him to Hohoe to demand his money on April 23, this year.
Chief Inspector Gbedemah said later Adjei issued a National Investment Bank cheque for payment to be withdrawn at the Ho-branch, but it was dishonoured and the complainant lodged a report with the Police, who later arrested Adjei.
