Kimathi Kuenyehia, is a Harvard-educated lawyer and one of Ghana’s leading corporate lawyers. Don’t be deceived, before going to Harvard to pursue an LLM, Kimathi’s entire educational experience had been Ghanaian. He returned after his masters to found the law firm, Kimathi & Partners with the objective of doing things differently. Kimathi, together with three others – Bright Simons and Fred Sawniker - was named a Young Global Leader for 2012 by the World Economic Forum in recognition of his 'professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world through inspiring leadership'. Speaking on told Joy FM Wednesday, he said he was "surprised, grateful to God and deeply humbled" by the honour and that the "honour is yet another call to serve our communities with our skill and talents." Kimathi Kuenyehia is the Managing Partner at Kimathi & Partners, a corporate boutique law firm. This recognition comes at a time when Ghana celebrates her 55th Independence Anniversary, and demonstrates again the growing international acknowledgment of Ghana’s youth excellence. With youth in the Arab World seizing global attention through the toppling of dictators and despotic regimes, and stirring sweeping economic and political reforms across the Middle-East and North Africa, Kimathi Kuenyehia and his young compatriots have firmly kept Ghana in the prestigious league of global change drivers. Two other Ghanaians, Bright Simmons and Fred Swaniker were also honoured as Young Global leaders for 2012. The three Ghanaians were among the 192 young leaders from 59 countries selected from a pool of over 5,000 young professionals as the most outstanding leaders below the age of 40 from around the world. The Young Global Leaders are selected from a variety of sectors such as business, government, academia, media, non-profit organizations and arts and culture, and from all regions of the world. They engage in initiatives that address specific challenges of public interest with the objective of shaping a better future. The honour, bestowed each year by the Forum, recognizes up to 200 outstanding young leaders from around the world for their professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world.
