Ghana’s former Local Government Minister, Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi has been honoured by the Afro-Asian Rural Development Organisation, for his role in the country’s decentralization and local governance administration.The award was conferred on Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi as the Afro-Asian Rural Development Organisation marks its 50th Anniversary in Delhi, India.An official acknowledgement from AARDO cited Prof. Ahwoi’s contribution “towards the success of Ghana’s decentralization, local government administration and rural development”. It also praised his efforts at strengthening AARDO’s activities in West Africa.The Prime Minister of India, Mamohan Singh inaugurated the AARDO 50th Anniversary. New Delhi, which is the headquarters of AARDO, is hosting the anniversary celebration.Ghana’s Local Government Minister, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo who attended the awards ceremony, praised the support of AARDO to Ghana’s local government development. He said AARDO has helped train several of Ghana’s human resource base in local governance and rural development.The organisation has, since 1998 received funding worth USD100, 000 in supporting rural based industries, he added.
