Former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana and AfDB Country Representative of Zimbabwe, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia returns home today, Tuesday 27 March, 2012 to push for the NPP 2012 Vice Presidential slot.
He returns after sojourns at the University of British Columbia in Canada, Oxford University in England and Zimbabwe as the African Development Banks Country Representative.
Dr. Bawumia’s return is seen as a harbinger to Nana Akufo-Addo’s announcement of his running mate on Thursday March 29, 2012.
The New Patriotic Party’s National Council is billed to hold a meeting with Nana Akufo-Addo at the University of Ghana where the final decision of who partners Akufo-Addo for the December Presidential election will be settled.
Bawumia is widely tipped to be retained as the running mate of Nana Akufo-Addo even though other possible names are still making the rounds.
The pair missed the presidency by whiskers in 2008, losing that election by the narrowest of margins – 40,000 votes.
In fact they led the first round of the poll and needed only 70,000 votes to wrap it up but voter apathy worked against Dr Bawumia and Nana Akufo-Addo.
A statement issued by the aides to Dr Bawumia says the two stand a great chance of recapturing power, the Mills administration having foundered in virtually all aspects of governance.
