Embattled Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Adams, has not just been suspended from his position but has also lost his membership of the party temporarily.
This was revealed by NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia who said Kofi Adams, by the suspension, forfeits all privileges he enjoys as a member of the NDC until the end of the inquiry.
He spoke in an interview with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on the Super Morning Show Tuesday.
Mr Kofi Adams was suspended after a leaked tape with a voice purported to be his was heard saying he will do everything possible to prevent President Mills from securing the mandate of Ghanaians for a second term.
His reinstatement is pending the results of investigations being conducted on him by the disciplinary committee of the NDC.
He has denied the allegation but the party, following a crunch meeting by the National Executive Committee (NEC) last Thursday, decided to suspend him.
Mr Asiedu Nketia explained the suspension was just to allow the investigations go on unimpeded and added that proper sanctions would be meted out to Mr Adams if the disciplinary committee finds him guilty.
“The objective … is to apply the rules of the party … so what we are doing is to ensure the rules of natural justice, the rules of fairness (are applied). We may step on one toe here or the other, the fact that we step on a toe does not mean that that particular toe is being targeted.”
However, Mr Kofi Adams who insists he has not been officially informed about the revocation of his membership as a member of the NDC, said he has been furnished with a series of advice from his lawyers and that he would explore some of the options available to him.
