The ICT capacity building and job creation development model pioneered by Rlg Communications has been elevated to another level as the programme is replicated in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation. About eight experienced trainers from the Rlg Institute of Technology arrived in Osun State to begin a six-month intensive training of the first set of trainees who will in turn take over the training of the youth under the module. It will be recalled that last year Rlg, Ghana’s premier ICT skill development company, signed an agreement worth 10,000 US Dollars with Nigeria’s Osun State to help the government achieve its goal of building human capital and creating sustainable jobs for 20,000 youth. Speaking to newsmen before the departure of the trainers, Mr. Isaac Appiah, Chief Operating Officer of the Rlg Institute of Technology, expressed great pride in the work done by the institute so far in training close to 30,000 youth in Ghana. Mr. Appiah expressed confidence in the capability and competence of the trainers, who were also trained at the Rlg Institute under the NYEP ICT module, and gave the assurance that the next six months will bring great excitement to both the government and people of Osun State. He was categorical in his belief that the programme will succeed beyond imagination, citing the successful roll-out and running of a similar project in The Gambia. Mr. Appiah said the programme in Osun State marks the beginning of a strategic expansion agenda that will be spread in the rest of Nigeria to help the youth of the country acquire skills that will help them apply their lives meaningfully and become self reliant, adding that the Rlg revolution will soon take root in the rest of Africa to help build the continent. He concluded that among others the youth will be trained in disciplinary areas such as mobile phone and computer repairs and assemblage, software development, hardware, sales and service orientation, customer care and entrepreneurship.
