The National Service Secretariat Tuesday held an orientation forum for the new batch of service personnel soon to be posted to begin their service.
Seventy-thousand personnel are expected to be deployed in September this year, with 40 percent of them to be stationed in the northern Ghana while the remaining 60 percent will be posted to other regions to engage in agriculture, health, local government, co-operatives and educational activities.
The National Service program is made purposely for Ghanaians who complete tertiary education to serve in various capacities and thus contribute their quota to national development.
According to the Executive Director of the Scheme, Mr. Vincent Kuagbenu, the secretariat introduced commercial agriculture last year as part of Government’s several interventions to cut down graduate unemployment in the country.
He noted that the time had come as a country to revolutionarize agriculture and urged parent s to encourage their wards to accept postings no matter where they are posted.
Kuagbenu also asked service personnel to take up entrepreneurship opportunities that come their way after the programme.
According to him, he expects this year’s programme to be a special one as doctors, dentists and pharmacists go to work on the farms.
He announced that the secretariat was linking up with the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) for any possible employment opportunities to engage personnel who complete their service. Visit our galleries for photos from the forum.
