A section of the media recently carried a story of two individuals, male and female, having sex in the open during the Kwahu Easter celebration. This has generated public bashing and condemnation of the Kwahu people from well meaning Ghanaians, especially public commentators and religious leaders.
The leadership of the Kwahu Youth Movement would want to state categorically that the said act never happened. People from all walks of life thronged to the mountain to join in the celebration of the Kwahu Easter and our checks from the various towns and joints, confirmed by the Kwahu Traditional Council indicate that nothing of that sort happened.
The people of Kwahu have used the Easter celebration as an opportunity to reflect on the past and make amends, forging ahead to face the future with unity and love. Families get united after being away for long and the traditional authorities use the opportunity to meet with community members.
Immoral acts, like what was wrongfully reported to have happened during the festivities, is not something that is encouraged by the Kwahu people. We are a disciplined community with high morals and would be the last to either engage or encourage visitors to do that.
We call on all to find courage and truth, and to desist from engaging in this business to purposely taint the hard won reputation of the good people of Kwahu.
To this end, we expect media houses who gave this news some credence, to provide video evidence if they doubt our position or render an unqualified apology to the chiefs and people of Kwahu.
We are by this release, thanking the chiefs and people of Kwahu, the media houses who publicized the festivities and the visitors and tourists who made the occasion a memorable one. We encourage continuous investment in the occasion because it is an opportunity to foster peace and unity and encourage the youth in community participation.
Best Regards,
