Growing competition in the sachet water business in Kumasi is brewing unhealthy rivalry among key players.
Rumours have been flying in the city suggesting Everpure, a leading producer of purified water, had been supplying water stored in snake-infested tanks to consumers.
The company has debunked the claims which officials attribute to what they describe as unscrupulous competitors, who feel threatened by Everpure’s growing influence in the Kumasi market.
A statement issued by the company also said “some people are indulging in undercutting of prices and imitation of Everpure Logo with the sole aim of tarnishing our hard-won image and hoping to bring our booming business down”.
Administrative and Marketing Manager, Eric Gyasi Darko, says the attempt to run the company down is unethical.
Though the rumour has not had any immediate impact on the business operations, Everpure is seeking to forestall future challenges on its distributors, retailers and consumers.
Mr. Gyasi Darko says the company is committed to healthy competition hence its high level of investments to maintain the highest possible standard in water production.
“The people of Ghana deserve good quality drinking water. Our brand success has come so quickly mainly because of our advanced technology we deploy in producing our water and nothing else”, he emphasized.
The company has lodged a formal complain to the police, the Food and Drugs Board and the Standards Board for investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, Everpure is offering a Ghc3,000.00 reward to anyone or group of persons who can provide useful information to bring to book those behind what Mr. Gyasi Darko describes as the ‘grand plot’.
The company currently has over 200 direct employees, in addition to its distributors and retailers.
