Mr. Ayikoi Otoo, former Attorney General and lead counsel for embattled Assin North MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has said that state prosecutors are wasting the time of everyone with the “gargantuan” charges leveled against his client.
Ayikoi Otoo said the state prosecutors should rather pay heed to the presiding judge’s advice and revise their charges and come back with lesser charges.
He maintained that there is nothing treasonable in the comments his client made on Oman FM that led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
He predicted that should the trial continue the way it is going, all the charges will be dropped.
He was speaking shortly after state prosecutors told the Accra High Court on Friday that they cannot proceed immediately with the trial of the MP for Assin North because the docket is not ready.
Kennedy Agyepong is standing trial for attempted genocide, terrorism and treason felony.
