Queen-mother of Offinso Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region is advocating legislation to restore the powers of traditional leaders to summon people to appear before them.
Nana Serwaa Nyarko observed that the current situation where chiefs have no such jurisdiction can only worsen litigation and other forms of dispute within communities.
She is worried about people's tendency to invoke curses to settle scores with others at the least opportunity.
She said that though the practice is unacceptable, chiefs are unable to sanction those who refuse to respond to invitation for such breach of traditional ethical behaviour.
Nana Nyarko said the nation must take a critical look at the issue to ensure sanity in local communities and ultimately national peace and cohesion.
Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko was enthroned Offinsohemaa 25 years ago.
The anniversary is being marked with a host of activities over two months, with a grand durbar on July 22 to climax the occasion.
