The Accra City Campus of the University of Ghana on Monday urged students to exercise restraint in their demands and avoid acts that might result in any disruption in their academic programme.
A statement signed by the Acting Director, Public Affairs Directorate, of the University, Stella A. Amoa said students who enrolled in the Accra Campus of the University paid 50 percent fees lower than their colleagues at the Legon Campus.
For example, it said while freshmen at Level 200, offering Bachelor of Arts programmes paid GH¢ 660 (¢6.6 million), those pursuing the same programme at the Legon Campus paid GH¢1,200 (¢12 million).
The statement added that whiles students offering Bachelor of Science degree at the Accra City Campus paid GH¢880 (¢8.8 million), their counterparts at the Legon Campus paid GH¢1,600 (¢16 million).
The statement which was in reaction to some concerns raised in the media on the subject of fees paid by students of the Accra City Campus of the University of Ghana said the University of Ghana clearly stated in the advertisements put out for the information of prospective students that the Accra City Campus was a fee-paying and non-residential facility.
It said students were made aware of that information prior to making their decision to pursue studies at the Accra City Campus and pointed out that through the Accra City Campus, the University was “addressing a felt, but hardly considered need in the society, by providing education at the convenience of recipients and in so doing, widening access to University education”.
