The coach of the National Black Bombers Ofori Asare is confident his charges will win medals in the upcoming Olympic Games.
Four members of the team have so far qualified for the event.
In an exclusive interview with Joy Sports, the coach expressed his satisfaction with the various training programmes organized by the Ghana Amateur Boxing Association and hopes that this would ultimately lead the nation to glory.
“We have had the chance of going on a training program in Azerbaijan through the untiring efforts of our chairman Ambassador Ray Quarcoo and this has helped improve the speed, endurance, power as well as the technique of the boxers.”
“We will also be embarking on a trip to London prior to the games to further sharpen the skills of the boxers.”
It has been forty long years since Ghana last won a medal in Boxing at the Olympic Games with Prince Amartey doing the honours for the nation in Munich, 1972 by winning a bronze in the Middleweight category.
UK-based Isaac Dogbe, a bantamweight, Duke Micah, a flyweight, Suleimana Tetteh, a light flyweight and Maxwell Amponsah, a heavyweight will represent Ghana in the boxing division at the Olympics.
The team is already in a non-residential camp as they go through their paces in preparation for the Olympics which is due to commence in a month’s time.
