AshantiGold could further extend their lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League table if they can engineer a win over Inter Allies on Saturday.
The Miners have risen to become early season favourites for the title following their remarkable run of form since the league started. The Obuasi-based club have almost swept aside every team, losing just once in eight games so far.
More impressive is that fact that Coach CK Akonnor’s side have an impeccable home record – one that Inter Allies will be wary of as they visit on Saturday.
Ashanti Gold have won all games played at the Len Clay stadium this season without letting a single goal into their net. With 14 points – level with Karela United – and having a game in hand, another win would definitely boost the club’s title chances.
However, Inter Allies would have other ideas with regards to that. The Tema-based side have not had the perfect start to the season, but sit on fifth position – just a point below fourth-placed Medeama.
Having halted a run of two consecutive losses after recording a hard-fought win over Eleven Wonders in midweek, Inter Allies will approach Saturday’s fixture in high spirts.
In Kenichi Yatshuhashi, they boast a manager who understands the local game and has the ability to stifle even the most attacking teams.
The Japanese tactician believes the low level of pressure on his shoulders is an advantage, adding that although his is managing a young team, he hopes to see the club further improve, starting with the game against AshGold.
“My team lack experience because they are young and some are as young as 18 years, but we are building upon it and we will get better,” Kenichi is quoted as saying by Graphic Sports.
“I am not happy about where we are and I hope to improve, but I am not worried because there is no pressure on me like when I was at Hearts and I hope we can do better.”
Ashanti Gold manager CK Akonnor also saw his side record an impressive draw away at WAFA in midweek and he believes his charges will carry such a high performance into Sunday’s game against Inter Allies.
The Ashanti Gold vs Inter Allies will be telecast live on StarTimes at 3pm on Saturday.
