The Minister of Food and Agriculture, at the weekend, disclosed that his Ministry would liaise with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly to construct a fishing mall at Tema Canoe Landing Beach for fishermen.
This, Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, said, would go a long way to help fishermen to get easy access to their fishing gears.
Mr Ahwoi made the disclosure when the Ministry presented 95 outboard motors to fishermen at Tema New Town, at a subsided price of GH¢4,900 as against GH¢8,000 on the local market, and expressed satisfaction that the fishermen were beginning to understand business for by paying for the product.
“Our talk is action. Once I have come here (Tema) that means my foot is on something. I will fight until I have provided you with what you have requested,” he told the fishermen.
Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Greater-Accra Regional Minister said, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government being selfless, has changed the perception of some people that the poor did not matter in national matters.
He called on the people to reciprocate the gesture of government by voting to retain the NDC in power, to continue with its good works, saying; “we do not build mansions while you go hungry. We have only spent three years, but we have been able to serve you well.”
Nii Amasa Namoale, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, in charge of Fisheries, said since President John Evans Atta Mills was elected, the NDC had fulfilled its campaign promises to the people, adding, and “NDC is a government which promises and honours them.”
He therefore, urged the people to vote for the party, come December 2012.
Nii Adjeiteh Mator III, Chief Fisherman of Tema, said the fishermen were happy that the government had listened to them and supplied them with the outboard motors.
In all, Greater Accra has been allocated a total of 139 outboard motors, out of which Tema has been given 95.
