Gold prospectors at Elmina are back at the beach prospecting for the precious mineral.Joy News’ Central Region correspondent Richard Kodjo Nyarko said the prospectors are back with their equipment including buckets in desperate search for gold.The hunt for the gold was halted a few months ago after traditional authorities and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources intervened.Questions were raised about the increasing destruction of the beach area and the pollution of the beach by the prospectors.A task-force was constituted to halt the activities of the illegal gold miners to enable stakeholders, including the Minerals Commission conduct thorough investigations into the mining activities at the beach area and recommend safer approaches to mining.But after almost six months the miners claim they are yet to hear from the ministry and the stakeholders.Kodjo Nyarko reported, Monday, the prospectors are back in full swing and are busy searching for gold.They claim they have been kept in the dark for far too long, and must make a living.They have been back for at least a month now, Nyarko learnt.According to him, with their equipments in place, the prospectors are digging deep into the sand, washing their buckets with the sea water in a desperate search for gold.The Municipal Assembly is reported to have reconstituted a task force to halt the activities of the prospectors.
