Building and Road Contractors can now pick up application forms to compete in the 2nd Contractors Excellence Awards slated for September 21.
The awards scheme recognizes excellence in the construction industry. Competition in the awards is expected to get keener this year with the inclusion of Road Contractors.
The Technical Director of the Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors, Rockson Dogbegah explained that this year’s awards scheme comprises 11 categories including the Contractor of the Year award.
“Contractors are classified into 4 categories and so in all we going to have 4 awards for Building contractors and 4 for road contractors, with Corporate Social Responsibility for foreign companies taking one slot and Corporate Social Responsibility for local companies also taking another slot.
Finally would be the overall award which can go to either side – that is this could be won by either a building contractor or a road contractor and that is where the competition is going to come from” he noted.
The awards scheme is now jointly organized by the Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors and the Progressive Road Contractors Association.
The maiden awards scheme was held last year and limited to building contractors but following keen interest, this year’s edition has been expanded to include road contractors.
To ensure total transparency and fairness, the Architectural Engineering Services or AESL has been designated for the sale of the application forms.
A scientific criteria as well as scoring system has been developed by a Committee of experts chaired by Engineer Leslie Awere Kyere.
Last year, Jescan Construction Ltd was adjudged the overall best Building Contractor, with Proko Ghana, Consar Ghana, Kumfranky and Malkna winning in other categories.
Last year’s overall winner drove home a truck donated by BBC Paints.
