1982 Black Stars Cup of Nations winning Captain Emmanuel Quarshie is travelling to Egypt next Monday for treatment of the throat cancer he has been suffering for many months.
Emmanuel Quarshie has had to give up his coaching job after a hugely successful career where he was starred for the Black Stars and five time African club champions Zamalek but his illness has kept him indoors of late.
It has taken the intervention of Zamalek, the club he inspired to win the 1984 CAF Champions league, to fly him to Cairo where the treatment is expected the next few days.
The arrangement for treatment was agreed by Zamalek’s contingent led by President Mahmoud Abass who came to town last week for a CAF Champions league opening group match against Chelsea of Berekum in Accra.
Zamalek is sponsoring the treatment, according to Quarshie’s former team mate at Hasaacas, Justice Boison.
“They have agreed to take him along for his medical expenses and accommodation to ensure that he gets the best medical attention before coming back to Ghana”.
“They were happy and at the same time sad to see him considering his condition,” he noted.
Zamalek officials have explained they were horrified at the state of Emmanuel Quarshie's illness following a meeting at the Oak Plaza Hotel in Accra last week.
Quarshie will be accompanied by former teammate Francis Edze.
