Government is calling for more attitudinal change in work places to ensure business transformation and development in the country. Whilst conceding that technology plays a crucial role in businesses, the Deputy Minister of Environment Science and Technology Dr. Mustapha Ahmed said the “underlying condition and success of any business transformation has always been attitudinal change of the people involved.” “Attitudinal change comes with motivation and exemplary leadership. There is the need therefore to collectively as a nation re-examine our values and clearly redefine our approach to development,” he added. He was speaking at an ICT conference organized by Cisco and Global Information Technology Solutions (GITS) under the theme “Business Transformation and Connected Government.’’ Dr Ahmed said a properly networked business society provides the opportunity for collaboration between government and creating a platform for addressing societal problems and reducing poverty. He pledged government’s commitment to “creating the environment that will facilitate transformation of businesses through to alignment of policies, development of infrastructure and capacity building programmes.” “My government is ready and willing to work with the business community to transform their enterprises to bring about accelerated development of all sectors of the economy,” he assured. Speaking on the topic “Connected government” the Regional Sales Manager of Cisco, Valentine Nwabueze described as erroneous perception and fear that the introduction of ICT takes away jobs from people. On the contrary, he said ICT can create as many jobs as possible if it is well maximized. He said many have a limited understanding of the power of technology and have only succeeded in putting information on websites in the name of e-banking, e-commerce etc. Valentine said connected government is far more than putting information on the website but rather connecting human beings, businesses and constituencies for the purpose of creating opportunities and facilitating businesses.
