Ghana international Wakaso Mubarak has told Joy Sports he will help his new club Espanyol to their first ever appearance at the UEFA Champions’ league or the Europa Cup if he is given more playing time.
The 21 year old ex-Ashgold player, who signed a four year contract for the Periquitos from relegated La Liga side Villarreal last week, has joined his new colleagues in the first team for their pre-season training, which he describes as “very difficult”.
He made seventeen appearances for Villarreal’s senior side and relishes more games with Espanyol.
In an exclusive interview with Joy Sports, Wakaso said “I have been here for a week and a few days and already I am learning a lot from my colleagues, my coach, the technical and medical teams.
The coach has been talking to me a lot about the number 3 position he would like me to play so I think I have the playing opportunity.”
The former Black Satellites player affirmed his decision not to rest on his oars but “work hard to get into Coach Mauricio Pochettino’s first team.”
Espanyol are yet to play in the UEFA Champions’ League as well as the Europa League, and the youngster would want to turn this situation around saying “when I signed the contract, I told them in my own small way I will help them to play in the Champions’ League and the Europa League.
Mubarak Wakasao left Ghana premier league side Ashgold in 2008 to join Elche and left after a three year stint to join fellow Spanish La Liga side Villarreal.
