The Italian press have got a bit upset with all the news over the weekend involving Robin van Persie and a Manchester United transfer. They've felt a bit left out and where transfer rumours are involved, that just won't do.It was always likely that today would see them hit back with more Juventus links. It may sound odd but there's a huge competitive edge to the Italian media and once a player is heavily linked with one of their clubs it almost becomes a matter of pride that they are proven right and he ends up in Serie A.For a good example of that, see the Paul Pogba case. The Turin based Tuttosport today say in their paper edition, quoted by Calciomercato, that Juventus are still in negotiations over Stevan Jovetic but haven't ruled out Robin van Persie who - according to them - is ready to snub Manchester United and Manchester City in order to secure a move to Juventus.Even Manchester United could beat the Turin club on wages so the only explanation would be that he wanted to leave the Premier League and not face a quick return to the Emirates and the fans he's walked all over in the past few weeks. At the outset Juventus had seemed the logical choice for him, a very good team who need a goalscorer, the script seemed to written already. However, they just don't have the same financial strength as Premier League clubs. A story over the weekend that the Turin club were in for Van Persie AND Suarez was simply fairy-tale stuff. If Arsenal want a decent fee and the player wants high wages, then Serie A becomes less likely.CdS in Italy bizarrely have a fresh article saying that Robin van Persie has decided not to renew his Arsenal contract, which is hardly breaking news. That's about it for news in Italy today, the UK media are still trying to work out Ferguson's mind games over the weekend.
