Ghana’s Black Satellites are expected in Kampala, Uganda at 0100hrs GMT Friday morning ahead of an African Youth Championship qualifier against their Ugandan counterparts the Hippos.
The Satellites had to leave Ghana last Tuesday but were unable to secure a flight for the entire team.
The 2009 Africa and world champions failed to impress at the last edition of the Africa Youth Championships hosted in South Africa last year and as a result failed to qualify for the world competition in Colombia the same year.
Assistant coach of the side, Prince Yaw Owusu told JOY Sports in an interview the team is ready to face new challenges.
“We must win against Uganda. We want to show the world that we are tough and that will start against Uganda. The boys are ready for the big task ahead. We all know what we want out there and we’ve worked on it very well. As we speak, I am very confident the boys will go for the ultimate.”
The Tema Youth coach intimated how comfortable he is working with interim head coach Maxwell Konadu. “The two of us are putting our experiences on the table. I am very comfortable with the way we work together. We both share ideas together to ensure the team achieves the best.”
The Black Satellites took Africa and the World by storm with every medal at the U-20 level in 2009. The team started by winning the West African Football Union (WAFU) championship, beat every team in Rwanda to annex the African Youth Championship trophy and finally conquered the rest of the world in Egypt to lift the FIFA World Youth Championship trophy.
