Zamalek have confirmed coach Hassan Shehata has resigned from the club on Thursday following a rift with midfielder Shikabala.
The experienced trainer had come under persistent pressure from local fans to quit after the five-time champions were beaten 1-0 by perennial rivals Al Ahly in the second group phase of the Caf Champions League.
Zamalek were also stunned by former Ghanaian Champions Berekum Chelsea who inflicted a painful 3-2 defeat in the opening group A fixture at the Accra Sports stadium some three weeks ago.
His future had been hugely speculated in the local media and he has confirmed his departure from the Cairo-based side.
“My resignation is definite, I would not return to the club under any circumstances,” Shehata told Al-Ahram,”
“There are several unacceptable things going on at the club and I endured a lot, but I won’t reveal them because the past is the past.”
The 62-year-old tendered in his resignation two months ago but was turned down by the club’s Board of Directors.
The resignation of Shetata comes ahead of their Champions League trip to TP Mazembe on August 4.
Assistant coach Ismail Youssef is expected to take temporal charge of the team ahead of the announcement of a substantive coach.
