Africa medal hopeful in canoeing for Togo arrived in London with much confidence to win a medal as he did four years ago.
The man behind Togo’s Beijing success in the sports was Benjamin Boukpeti who won bronze four years ago. The slalom canoeist won Togo’s first Olympic medalist but he’s not the huge star there that one might expect.
He was born in France, studies in France and his brother, Olivier, is in the French flat water canoeing team but one person to lift the flag of Togo high out of six athletes presented at the multi sports event to shock the World will be Benjamin.
Meanwhile, Chief of Mission of the Togo team Latevi Lawson Chroco.
“Benjamin is he only Togolese in canoe slalom. The five other athletes in London will compete in Judo, swimming and athletics”. he told JOY Sports
Benjamin Boukpeti, who won the countries first ever medal in Beijing with a bronze, will again carry the hopes of his nation in the slalom canoe K-1 class at London 2012.
