Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Kofi Humado is confident the new package for a gold medalist at the Olympic Games will motivate team Ghana.
The Sports minister declared the revised amount from 10,000 dollars to 20,000 dollars after a thorough discussion with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) ahead of the start the multi sports competition on Friday.
The minister was part of the dignitaries who addressed the team at the residence of the United Kingdom High Commissioner alongside other chiefs of the Ghanaian communities.
“We have been encouraged by the presidency the best thing we can do in t memory of the late president is to compete and bring some medals in his name. We are strong in boxing, we have hopes in athletics and even weightlifting we can spring a surprise so I think we have a fair chance of getting some medals. In principle bonuses will increase their performance so hope the athletes will be paid their dues”. He told JOY Sports
Meanwhile Friday’s opening ceremony will see boxer Maxwell Amponsah leading team Ghana when it starts 21:00 BST at the Olympic Stadium
