Airtel Ghana has presented a cheque of GHC3,500 to the Ghana Journalists Association as sponsorship for this year’s ‘Best Reporter – Education (Print Category) at the 17th Ghana Journalists Association awards scheduled for later this year.
The company said the package will be used to purchase a laptop amongst other things for the winner of the category.
Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs of Airtel Ghana, Donald Gwira presented the cheque at a short ceremony at the GJA’s office.
Mr. Gwira said education is one of the main pillars that drive Airtel Ghana’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.
“We at Airtel Ghana believe that by supporting the best journalist in education we are supporting the growth of journalism as a whole”, he said.
Mr. Gwira explained that Airtel Ghana views the media in Ghana as partners and not just as a conduit for dissemination of information, adding that “we are constantly striving to strengthen the relationship between us and the media through a number of approaches and the support to the GJA is certainly one of the key approaches”.
Vice President of the GJA, Affail Monney welcomed Airtel on board the GJA Awards and expressed the hope that Airtel will stay on as sponsors as one of its contributions to the growth of the media.
Meanwhile, MTN is the headline sponsor of the GJA Awards, and its sponsorship package include laptops and MTN modems for all award winners of all categories.
