Death, they say is inevitable but yours came unexpected like an earthquake which threw the entire nation of Ghana into shock. The state of Ghana stood still as the news of your death was made public.
You have left an irreparable crack on the minds of the entire population, especially, your close friends, admirers, family and your lovely wife who will find it difficult to forget the reality that you are gone from this unfair earth.
Music Council of Ghana will annually commemorate the date you departed this world not just because of the very obvious contributions you made to Ghana’s development or the many lives you empowered but also for the fact that it was during your regime that you inaugurated Music Council of Ghana. We are continually encouraged by your personal message to the Council during its official launch in Accra.
Prof Mills, as a youth, you made many strides in the academic arena; you gained the prestigious PhD at the early age of 27. As a private citizen, you achieved a lot and set many trail blazing records before you were voted by the good people of Ghana to serve our great nation. You demonstrated the true meaning of servitude because even at the peril of your own health, you persevered and continued to serve the good people of Ghana as President, demonstrating that you truly “CARE”.
Ghanaians and most especially, members of your Government and the entire staff at the seat of Government, the Castle will never forget in a hurry your introduction of worship to the God almighty during each day of Government at the seat of power. Even in every formal speech you gave to all manner of people, tribes and religions in Ghana and beyond, you always addressed all as “my brothers and sisters”.
As a father, you gave the youth in Ghana the opportunity to serve their nation in your Government to unequal all record in the history of Ghana. No wonder you spent over twenty five (25 yrs) of your lifetime impacting knowledge to the youth/students as a University Professor.
As a humble and progressive leader, your Government supported and continued many projects introduced by your predecessors which many believe is untraditional practice in most Governments in our part of the world, Africa.
With your tenacity as a true African leader you supported the upholding of our indigenous customs and values as a people, your Government fought against the formal legitimatisation of same sex marriage (Homosexuality) in Ghana even when many western nations threatened to boycott economic and diplomatic relations with Ghana. During the time of political instability in neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire, your government offered shelter to many refugees and also ensured that Ghana remained neutral in the settling of a Sovereign country’s domestic issues and never supported the use of force to settle the issues there because you were a man of Peace…..”ASOMDWE HENE”.
Ghana’s law maker will not forget easily the warmth and humour you shared with all members of Parliament especially, your last visit to the House, which will forever leave a gargantuan smile on the faces of all members; even as they continue to eulogise your unfortunate demise. We are very encouraged how Ghanaians from all political divides, tribes & religions have remained united to mourn your sudden death.
Music Council of Ghana will continue to remember the wonderful contributions you made towards the development and sustenance of the nation’s Arts and Culture. For the first in the history of Ghana, it was only in your government that the Arts and Culture industry received remarkable allocation of two million (2,000,000) Ghana Cedis to ensure that our industry positions its activities vibrantly to boost the country’s manpower and revenue.
A nation has lost a Great Leader; the youth lost a Caring Father; your wife & Son, a Loving Husband & Dad!
REST IN PEACE!!!
Signed:
Justice Cletus
General Secretary - Music Council of Ghana
