The Global Mamas, an NGO based in Ningo-Prampram has received a Fund for Social Development (37,428 GHS) from the French Ambassador, Frédéric Clavier. The FSD will enhance the lives of unemployed and underemployed Ghanaian women in Ningo-Prampram District (Greater Accra), trained in the textile industry by creating sustainable income opportunities that lead to financial independence. Every year, French government supports small and medium-scale development projects in Ghana by providing 100, 000 Euros (240,000 GHS) with its special programme “Fund for Social Development”. Beneficiaries of the project: The project will be located in Greater Accra, in Ningo-Prampram District. Direct beneficiaries of Phase II include: • The 23 women that will be hired when funding is secured. • The 21 existing employees of the workshop whose futures will be secured when the site achieves self-sustainability. Indirect beneficiaries of Phase II include: • Nearly 200 people will benefit from the increased revenue in the community (employees support an average of eight family members) • The Ningo-Prampram community whose economy will thrive when more citizens earn a steady, reliable, and fair wage. • Local businesses where Global Mamas purchases their raw materials. Objectives of the project: To transform the lives of unemployed and underemployed Ghanaian women trained in the textile industry by creating sustainable income opportunities that lead to financial independence. Create immediate fair trade employment for 23 women and provide job security for 21 additional women. Ensure the site follows fair trade standards and has the least amount of impact on the environment as possible. Position the producers of the Global Mamas network to compete in the global textile market by increasing production capacity while maintaining fixed costs. Activities to meet the objectives: 1. Site Expansion: 2. Employ 23 new women (15 seamstresses, 6 batikers, and 2 quality control staff) and provide them with the training and support needed to ensure that they are successful. 3. Evaluate the current work environment and provide alternatives to mitigate environmental risk. 4. Level out production of Global Mamas own product line and fulfil all existing orders.
