Chelsea have completed the signing of Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta from Marseille, the French club have confirmed.
Azpilicueta, 22, started his career with Osasuna and has represented Spain at various levels, including under-21 and under-23.
Cesar Azpilicueta will train with his new Chelsea team-mates on Friday morning after completing his move from Marseille.
The Spanish right-back moves to Stamford Bridge for a fee of round £7million after a summer-long chase.
The 22-year-old has started Marseille's opening two Ligue 1 games, but has now put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the European champions.
Azpilicueta, who was left out of Marseille's squad for Thursday's Europa League clash with FC Sheriff Tiraspol, said on Tuesday: 'If my departure can help Marseille's finances, then it is a good deal for everyone concerned.
'I thank the club's fans for their standing ovation. They have always been good to me, even when things haven’t gone well.'
The Olympian has little competition for places in his prefered right-back berth - although he began his career as a winger - with regular Branislav Ivanovic having made no secret of his desire to play at centre-back.
