The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) says it will not relent in the drive to ward off foreigners in Ghana’s retail trading sector.
The Inter-Agency Task Force on non-Ghanaians in Retail Business in June this year commenced an action to close shops operated by foreigners.
The exercise which was planned to be carried out simultaneous across the country has slowed following agitations by some Nigerian traders.
GUTA President, George Ofori says executives of the Union have been meeting to assess activities of the taskforce, stating that the exercise will be sustained.
“We have made it clear in no uncertain terms through the Taskforce that the law does not discriminate and GUTA has severally said that we’ll fight this battle we achieve our desired objectives”, he told Luv Biz Report.
Mr. Ofori said the Union will continue to engage the Taskforce to achieve success and prevent the issue from “dying a natural death”.
According to him, the ECOWAS Protocol on Trade should not prevent Ghana from protecting its sovereign interest.
