The Vice President of the Ghana Paralympic Association Adjetey Sowah says Team Ghana’s participation at the just ended Paralympics in London has provided the association a perfect learning platform.
Team Ghana failed to make the desired impact at the Games after all four athletes failed to win a medal in their respective events.
Powerlifter Charles Teye Narh could only manage an eighth place in the 10-man keenly contested Powerlifting event. Ghana’s first ever Para cyclist Alem Mumuni also failed in both the Men’s Individual C 1-3 and C 2 Time Trial events.
Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe, three-time Paralympian and one of the nation’s leading athletes could not make it to the finals of the men’s 100meter category after finishing 7th in the first heat. Anita Fordjour who was tipped to win a medal by virtue of participating in three different track and field events also disappointed.
According to Adjetey Sowah, his outfit has been exposed to very useful lessons that will be implemented to improve Ghana disable sports.
“It’s a food for thought, we have learnt a useful lesson and it has given us the necessary exposure”. He told JOY Sports
“Our working relationship with other countries has given us the edge to explore other opportunities towards trying to reach out to other athletes”.
