When was the last time you saw the famous yellow buses, nicknamed “Kufuor Buses”, as part of the Metro Mass Transport system, procured by the erstwhile Kufuor administration?Well, over fifty of the fleet of buses are currently parked in the yard of the uncompleted Greater Accra Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Scheme, near the Military Dog Training School on the N1 highway.Communications Manager at the Metro Mass Transit, Eric Boadi in an interview told Joy news said the buses have overstretched their economic usefulness and as such have been sold as scrap to the Ministry of Health to be used as makeshift health posts in rural communities and also to the Ghana police service.These buses used to be very popular in their hey days earning such interesting nicknames as “Auntie Dede”.Two years down the line the yellow Kufuor buses are missing from the streets of the capital and from the fleet of the operational MMT buses. The buses procured from China in 2005 are believed to have served their usefulness and as such have been sold as scrap to the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Police Service.According to Eric Boadi no metro mass transit bus will be abandoned, but each will either be repaired when they break down or sold as scrap to generate more revenue for the company.Meanwhile in an earlier interview with joy news on Midday brief, public relations officer of the ministry of health, Tony Goodman said a committee had been set up to see to the speedy implementation of the project.The new health post will be located at rural communities in the country where access to health care is a major challenge.The Metro Mass Transit company has procured a number of new vehicles to augment its fleet
