Defending champions Asante Kotoko finally recorded their first victory in this season’s premier league after beating Berekum arsenal 2-0 at the Baba Yara stadium on Sunday.
After struggling to find their groove in the last four premier league matches the porcupine warriors were on top of their game as Michael Helegbe and Joseph Ochaya scored two second-half goals to end their poor run. The win lifts Kotoko to fifth on the standings and 6 points off the summit.
And pressure mounts on Coach CK Akunnor and his team as they picked up their third consecutive defeat in a 2-0 loss to Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park.
The result leaves Hearts just a place above the relegation zone after five rounds of matches in the league. The Phobians have four points from a maximum of 15.
Berekum Chelsea have now moved to second place with ten points just three separating them and leaders SC Medeama.
SC Medeama maintained their fine start to the season after recording a 2-0 away victory in Tamale over Real Tamale United.
A goal from each half by strikers Kabiru Imoro and Masawudu Suleman ensured that Medeama stay three points clear on top of the premier league. The match saw Medeama goalkeeper Joseph Halm rushed to the hospital after collapsing on the pitch when he collided with R T U attacker Isaac Neequaye.
Liberty Professionals recorded their maiden win in the League with a 2-0 home victory against Aduana Stars at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman. Striker Kennedy Ashia's second-half brace was all Liberty needed to lift themselves off the bottom of the standings.
In other matches, Wa All Stars stormed back from behind to earn a one all draw with Tema Youth at the Wa Park.
Heart of Lions drew 2-2 with Amidaus professionals at the Tema Park while AshantiGold managed a hard-fought 1-0 win against King Faisal at the Len Clay Stadium. Ebusua Dwarfs drew goalless with New Edubiase on Saturday at the Len Clay Stadium.
