Kosmos Energy has donated a 40-horse power Yamaha outboard motor and three bales of nets toward the Western Region celebration of the 28th National Farmers Day.
This is a demonstration of the company’s recognition of fishermen as key stakeholders in its operational districts and also an appreciation of their contribution to the national food basket.
Kosmos Energy last year supported with similar items which were presented to the 2011 Best Fisherman in the Region.
Dr. Kwame Boakye-Agyei, Director HSE and Security who donated the items on behalf of the company to the Regional Coordinating Council said “The gesture is in line with Kosmos Energy's Corporate Responsibility efforts to build human capacity and economic opportunities in the regions where it operates”. He added that the company is currently undertaking a number of capacity build projects in the Districts.
For his part, the Western Regional Coordinating Director, Mr David Yaro, said Kosmos Energy last year supported with similar items which were presented to the 2011 Best Fisherman in the Region which happens to be the biggest for the best for the best in the selected category.
The coordinating director said there could not be a successful farmers’ day celebration without corporate support for a meaningful prizes for the country’s gallant farmers.
“We have sent about 80 letters to corporate bodies in the region but none of them had responded to the call for support, therefore, we are very grateful to Kosmos Ghana for the support,” he said.
He said the donation demonstrated the company considered the fishing community as very important stakeholders and deemed it necessary to be part of the celebration and appeal to other companies to support.
The Deputy Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr Emmanuel Sasu also commended the company for the support and promptly supporting the programme.
