The Asante-Mampong Government Hospital has been thrown into shock, disbelief and grief over the gruesome murder of a 24- year-old nurse at the facility by her boyfriend.
The deceased, Ivy Awuah, was reportedly stabbed several times in the abdomen by her lover, known only as Ike, who later committed suicide by hanging.
The unnerving incident happened at about 0900 hours on Sunday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Abudulai Iddrisu, the Asante-Mampong Municipal Commander who confirmed the news said the case had been referred to the Regional Police Headquarters in Kumasi.
The two had been in a relationship for about five months but things started going sour. At a point, some of their relatives had to come in to try and assist the lovers to smooth over their differences.
According to an uncle of Ivy, Mr. Baafour Dwumah, his niece had not been comfortable with the relationship and threatened quitting because of strange dreams she was having in her sleep.
Added to this, were the unusual and weird materials she saw on the phone of the boyfriend, something that heightened her suspicion that he was into the practice of occultism.
He said Ike had visited on Sunday early in the morning from Obuasi where he was staying. She prepared him breakfast after which she informed him, she was leaving for church service.
He would have none of that, forcibly prevented her from leaving, locked up the door and started stabbing her in the abdomen and shoulders with a kitchen knife as she dropped to the floor dead.
He fled from the scene to Kumasi after the crime and hanged himself.
