The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) is to establish a branch of the institute in Tamale within a year.
The measure is part of strategies by the management of GIMPA to bring its programmes to the doorstep of people living in northern Ghana.
The Director of GIMPA, Prof. Stephen Adei made this known during a five-day training workshop on strategic management for district chief executives in the Northern Region in Tamale.
The workshop was jointly organised by the Northern Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) and GIMPA.
He said the State Construction Corporation (SCC) yard in Tamale had been purchased for that purpose.
"We are going to have a satellite campus in Tamale and we would have a video system and Internet facilities to enable students here to link up with the campus in Accra," the director stated.
He further pledged that apart from Tamale, GIMPA branches would be extended to other regional capitals of the country.
According to him, it was imperative for district chief executives to be organised to enable them to perform creditably.
Leadership qualities include how well chief executives could organise themselves to be able to manage the affairs of their respective districts, the director pointed out.
For his part, the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Iddris, expressed concern about the recent demonstration in Tamale by motorbike riders to protest against fines imposed on them for various road traffic offences.
He therefore stressed the need for the chief executives to assist to carry out intensive public education in order to help encourage people to be law-abiding.
