Two FIFA Assistant referees of A.S Malik and David Laryea will officiate at next year’s Nations Cup provided they pass a standard cooper test organized by the Confederation of African Football in Cairo.
The invitation by CAF is part of a provisional list of officials for next year’s Nations Cup in South Africa. The two are to undertake the week-long course from Wednesday.
Retired FIFA referee Joseph Wellington, who is General Secretary of the Ghana Referees Association sees it as a good move.
“We are lucky to have two of our referees to take this test. We will pray for them and hope they pass out successfully and get the opportunity to be at the AFCON,” he said.
Ghana has been without a representation on the referee’s front at the Nations Cup since veteran Alex Quartey left the scene. Referee Quartey last officiated at the 2002 edition of the tournament hosted by Mali.
