A 38-year-old farmer who is standing trial at the Mankranso Magistrate court for stealing 25 million cedis (G¢2,500) belonging to Opanin Yaw Boye, a fetish priest at Bankyease near Mankranso in the Ahafo-Ano South District, was on Monday remanded.
Kwasi Frimpong pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on October 30.
Police Inspector Abraham Agyei Mensah told the court that the fetish priest accommodated the accused for four years in his shrine and cured him of all his ailments.
He said about two weeks ago the fetish priest, after detecting the theft of his one million CFA Francs and another G¢500, questioned people in the shrine but they all denied taking the money.
The accused left the shrine three days later and settled at Mankranso but an acquaintance detected his changed lifestyle and suspected him of stealing the fetish priest's money.
Opanin Boye made a report to the police when he was informed and the accused was arrested.
