An Nkwanta Magistrate Court presided over by Mr. Stanislaus Amanoipo has fined two hunters GH¢400 (¢4 million) cedis each for poaching in the Kyabobo Game Reserve in the Nkwanta District.
The hunters who pleaded guilty are Kwesi Owusu, 35 and Yaw Melebor, 25.
They will serve six months each in prison in default.
Mr. Hayford Kwame Asempah, a Detective Inspector of Police, prosecuting told the court that on August 17, wildlife guards on their usual patrols came across the accused persons hunting in the reserve.
He said when the accused persons were confronted Owusu opened fire on the guards but they escaped unhurt.
Inspector Asempah said the guards overpowered them and handed them over, together with two local cap guns and carcasses of three dickers, to the police.
The court remanded Owusu on a fresh charge of attempted murder.
