The Advertising Association of Ghana has petitioned Parliament over new outdoor advertising rates being charged by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.
The advertisers are kicking against the new rates they say represents eight times more than what the advertisers used to pay.
Executive Director Francis Dadzie tells Joy Business they have been forced to go to Parliament because all attempts to get the AMA to review the new rates have been futile.
“We are presenting a petition with the support of the AGI to draw the attention to the anomalies in the procedures and processes which the AMA adopted in fixing the rates and the fact that they ignored all our concerns were thrown to the dogs.”
He also accused the Chief Executive of the AMA of manipulating the system in getting the new rates passed.
The AAG has also filed a legal suit against the AMA over its eight-year contract with a private firm brought in to replace a technical team charged with the responsibility of determining advertising rates.
The technical team of nine companies was responsible for determining advertising rates and monitoring outdoor advertisement.
Mr. Dadzie insists the AMA did not act fairly.
